By far, the fastest way to clear out most blocked drains is to use the high pressure water jet, however this can be messy. With this method a continuous stream of water under extremely high pressure is fired at the blockage, which then slowly breaks the blockage down and blasts the debris out of the pipe until it is cleared out and flowing properly.
With electro-mechanical cleaning a flexible rod is inserted into the clogged pipe and is forced through the blockage with sheer brute force. Most of these rods come in a long reel and have various attachments that are designed to make cutting through the blockage as quickly as possible. This type of clearing out is generally reserved for smaller bore drains such as toilets and sink drains rather than the larger bore drain pipes.
We use a small camera and CCTV to get a look at the blockage. The camera is attached to the end of a flexible cable that can be sent down the drain all the way to the point at which it is blocked, this allows the plumber to get a close up look at the cause and make a recommendation as to which method might be best to clear the blocked drain.
